Jesus refilled my rice container

Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing.

Jesus-The Great Multiplier

De’Siree N. Reeves

I bought a two-pound (32 oz) bag of basmati rice at the grocery store. When I got home, I was trying to open the bag to place the rice in a storage container, but I didn’t realize that my grip was too tight. By the time the realization reached me, it was too late. The bag of rice tore open and rice went flying everywhere: the counter; the stove; the kitchen sink; my reusable bag–everywhere.

Before I cleaned up the mess, I scooped up what I could salvage and poured it, as well as what remained in the torn bag, into a 32 oz plastic container. Given the huge mess, I expected more to be missing. Somehow, I still managed to fill the 32 oz container with the remainder of the rice. Beforehand, on the bus ride home from the grocery store, I was following my Bible reading plan for the day, which was Matthew 15-16. Sure enough, in Matthew 15, Jesus feeds 4,000 with 7 loaves and a few small fish!

Hallelujah to God the Great Multiplier and Good Shepherd. Thank you for taking what we have to offer and making it more than we can fathom. Many thanks for providing for my dietary needs, during a difficult financial season, especially given my dietary restrictions and limited transportation. All glory be to You and your overflowing love and care!

Relevant Bible Verses

Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he kept giving the bread to the disciples so they could distribute it to the people. He also divided the fish for everyone to share. They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftover bread and fish. A total of 5,000 men and their families were fed. -Mark 6:41-44
